Tuomas Ahva is an Helsinki-based sound artist who currently attends Aalto in the Sound in New Media program. Having a background as a software project manager (MSc, graduated from Tampere University of Technology in 2008), he nowadays works with software involving sounds and music. Prior to the studies in Media Lab Helsinki he became interested in the possibilities of a touch-screen tablet as musical instrument. His Master’s thesis research explores the iPad as a musical instrument. This research includes both applications developed by others and applications developed by himself.
Ava Grayson is a Canadian-born sound artist and composer currently living in Helsinki and also working on her Master’s thesis in Aalto’s Sound in New Media program. Ava graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music in Composition, and continues to write chamber music. During her bachelor she became involved with the music technology courses and now designs algorithmic pieces using almost entirely MAX and PD. Her Master’s thesis is intended to be a durational performance combining an interactive sonic environment with bio-signal input.
